Our heritage

The first capital of Vermont, chartered in 1761

Arlington lies in Bennington County, in the Valley of Vermont between the Taconic Range to the west and the Green Mountains to the east — most of the town's land mass rising into the Taconics. The Battenkill River, famous for its trout fishing, runs through the heart of town, and the covered bridge remains Arlington's enduring symbol.

A five-member Select Board, elected by the town's registered voters, governs Arlington, with a Town Administrator running day-to-day operations. Alongside them serve the Town Clerk, Treasurer, three Listers, and a roster of appointed boards and committees.
