How Arlington is governed

A five-member Board of Selectmen, elected by the registered voters of the town, governs the Town of Arlington. A Town Administrator, hired by and reporting to the Select Board, runs the town's day-to-day operations. Also elected are the Town Clerk, the Town Treasurer, three Listers, three Auditors, seven Justices of the Peace, and several other town officials. The Select Board appoints a seven-member Planning Commission, a seven-member Zoning Board of Adjustment, and roughly twenty residents who serve on committees.

Each board below shows when and where it meets, who serves on it, and its recent agendas and minutes.

Open Meeting Law & public records

Arlington complies with Vermont’s Open Meeting Law. Here is how meetings are warned, how minutes and recordings are posted, and how to raise a concern.

Vermont Open Meeting Law — your rights

Vermont’s Open Meeting Law (1 V.S.A. §§ 310–314) gives every resident the right to attend meetings of the Select Board and all other public bodies. Meetings are warned with an agenda posted in advance, and — as amended by Act 51 (2025)minutes are posted within five calendar days and, where a meeting is recorded, the recording is posted with the minutes. Regular remote access (Zoom) is provided for most meetings.

How to file an Open Meeting Law complaint

If you believe a public body has not complied with the Open Meeting Law, you may file a written complaint with that body. Under 1 V.S.A. § 314, the public body must respond within ten calendar days — either acknowledging the violation and stating how it will cure it, or stating that it disputes the alleged violation and the reason. If the body does not respond, or you are not satisfied with the response, you may bring an action in the Civil Division of the Superior Court.

Submit complaints in writing to the Town Administrator at the Town Office, 3828 VT Route 7A, Arlington, VT 05250, or by email. Include the meeting date, the body involved, and the specific concern.

Requesting a public record

Meeting minutes, agendas, and most town documents are public records. To request a record, contact the Town Clerk’s office. Land records for the past 20+ years are also available online through the town’s records portal.
